Death of an Icon!
His life off the stage was definitely questionable but his talent was unquestionable. The career of this man began at the age of 5. Michael was born in Gary, Indiana the seventh of nine children. Joseph Jackson served as manager of the Jackson 5. The group acquired national success with the hit single “I Want You Back.” Michael continued to stand out from his brothers through the 70’s. The Victory tour proved that the lead singer had all the tools to become a solo act. He goes on the film “The Wiz”, where he mets legendary producer Quincy Jones. Michael releases his first solo album, Off The Wall, in 1979. Under Jones, Michael moves on in 1981 with the Thriller album. It would remain on the charts for 3 years becoming the greatest selling album of all-time.
He had everything after the 1982 release. Seven of the nine tracks made it to #1 on music charts. Thriller goes 40x platinum. He releases Bad in 1987 and Dangerous in 1991. They also sell millions going platinum time and time again. In total, Michael Jackson sold over 750 million albums. I don’t believe this number will ever be broken. Many will criticize the King of Pop for not living his life as normal people. He shared his bed with young boys but was never convicted of molestation. His face changed numerous times. For me, he was still Michael. My brothers idolized this man regardless of what the media felt. June 25th will be one of those days that I will remember where I was when the news broke that my idol went into cardiac arrest. I prayed that he would recover but it was not to be.
London was the first of 50 concerts beginning July 13th. All 750,000 tickets sold out in just over 4 hours. Michael was going to be 51 on August 28th. This comes the same day as Farrah Fawcett died. It was a sad day for America and the whole world. Some parts of the world are waking up to hearing the death of the most famous man in the world. His whole life was a rollercoaster. He went from a little boy to a troubled adult. Crowds gathered at the Apollo Theater where the Jackson 5 performed when Michael was just a boy. In Los Angeles, fans crowded radio personality Michael Jackson’s wall of fame until the Bruno premiere ended and the King of Pop’s stone was clear. He was pronounced dead at 2:29 PM/PT. Doctors trield tirelessly to revive him for over an hour. Music videos were revolutionized thanks to Michael Jackson. The Thriller, Billie Jean, Beat It, and Black or White videos stand in a class of all their own. A comeback album was planned after the 50 concert tour. I was personally eager to see what Michael could produce. Unfortunately, such an album cannot be made. My sincere condolences go out to everyone that knew Michael personally. I led my life wishing I could meet him one day. Another legend is lost. Living legends such as Muhammad Ali, Michael Jordan, or Steven Spielberg will be appreciated all the more. An autopsy today will reveal if Michael contributed to his own death. One thing is certain; millions are heartbroken over this loss.
Michael Jackson, in my opinion, is the greatest performer ever. I truly feel that I’ve lost apart of my life. May he sing to us from heaven. Rest In Peace Michael Jackson 1958-2009 Related Michael Jackson:
